Emergence is a compilation of video journal entries and ethereal soundscapes that express the importance of community to me. This piece was inspired by a period of solitude and dissociation for me as an artist, when I was so preoccupied with myself that I lost track and became passively engaged with my present environment. I am who I am because of those who have formed me, and I am using this film project to encourage myself and my loved ones to consider how our self-perception and personal experiences influence how we make important memories. I’ve always had an affinity for nature, and in my work, I explore parallels between nature's growth processes and human growth processes. I dedicate this to my Loved ones.
BIO
Since the age of 4, I've gained an ever growing adoration for the arts and storytelling. I am a vocalist, poet, artivist and lover of nature, futurism, and African diasporic music and filmscapes. I was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA. I come from a family of healers and creatives, and I am no stranger to the elitist and exclusionary structures that have historically barred low income folks, Black and Indigenous folks of color, from being recognized as artists, let alone humans. In my post grad endeavors, I want to continue making music, writing, engaging in and creating spaces that make art more accessible as an educational and healing tool.
