Artist: I Dewa Putu Berata

Meguru Bali is a digital space that features a series of interviews with Balinese performing artists highlighting their experiences learning and teaching Balinese performing arts. The interviews focus on whether their pedagogy differs from how they have been taught. The goals of this project revolve around providing a space for established Balinese artists to share and pass down their experiences and stories to younger Balinese artists, but allowing a wider, more global audience to have a glimpse. Meguru Bali decenters Euro-Western cultures and languages by providing interviews explicitly in Balinese and Indonesian. A number of these artists could do interviews in English but have done them in Balinese and Indonesian to fully commit to the Balinese audience. Meguru Bali provides a space for young Balinese artists to learn from and have access to the experiences and stories of master artists. During Soft Launch, the audience present at UCLA will have a chance to experience a glimpse of Balinese pedagogy.
